A bit too much goofing off today on the bike, and a few errands that needed to get done, so I didn't make the time to get up the creek today. Just proves that if you're not going to make time for something...it's not likely going to happen on its own. Arrived back from the grocery store as the sun was ducking behind the hills. By the time I finished putting things away, and wandered out of the house to do laundry, the forest was lit up by the moon. I would have taken a picture right then, but I'd already changed into shorts and flip flops for the night.

Anyhoo...I got into more appropriate clothing and footwear, and headed out to try a few shots. Not too bad for a first effort up here. Providing the weather holds out, and there's no reason to thing it will, I might wander up to the falls tomorrow night.

...or maybe a little later.

Sleep didn't come too easily this evening, so I thought I would add one more of today's photos from the creek. .

The first bit of snow fell this morning. Like most other "first snows", this one isn't likely to last through tomorrow, but it certainly changed the view from the cabin today.

I'm not sure when I woke up, but it was well before the alarm went off. There were things to do on today's list, but all that got put on hold for a bit, to allow time taking pictures on the creek. Felt a bit like a kid on Christmas morning...only this kid was getting bundled up to run outside. Not a bad start to the day.

Now...where was I?

Very little going on today. It's a Sunday, in a very small town, and it's raining. Good time to a get a bit of riding in, and maybe take a few pics. The one below was taken on the ride home this afternoon.

Tonight, instead of sitting around watching a movie, Nadine and I spent a couple of hours volunteering at the Bainbridge Presbyterian Church, as they held their Harvest Meal. (Basically, an early Thanksgiving feast.) We brought food to tables, and filled serving bowls and plates as waves of little old folks wandered into the church. We weren't able to stay for the entire evening, but managed to serve more than 150 during our two hours on shift. Pretty cool. Very appreciative church volunteer staff. We were even given meals to go.

A rather worthwhile way to spend a few hours of your day.

November 8th. Not my best day in New York.

UPS managed to lose some rather nice parts to a bike that was being shipped out from Idaho. If the box had arrived in a condition that looked like they used anything but their feet to move it across the country, I wouldn't have been as frustrated. The hydraulic braking system, with the exception of just the rotors, along with the stem and grips, were missing. Once UPS approves the value of what's missing, they'll be cutting a check. I've waited eight months for the bike...so a couple more weeks won't kill me.

The tire shop took nearly three hours to mount snow tires. Apparently, New York doesn't always operate at the frantic pace most people assume it does. Nice guy running the place, but most employees looked like they were just trying to look busy. (The fact that the Subaru closest to the window wasn't worked on for nearly two hours, gave them away.)

None of the stores I went to had what I was looking for. It was a bit like trying to find beer on an Idaho campus during my first visit in '84. Just doesn't happen. Add to that, the fact that one of the larger retail stores started staging its freight at 3:00pm, making it impossible to navigate...and the day was nearly a total bust.

I arrived home with a few minutes before the sun went down. Just time enough to hike up the creek and take a couple of shots. Well...by the time I got the camera programmed, just one. At least it turned out okay.

Closed out the evening with a bit of laundry and two bottles of Dogfish IPA.
Not a total loss.
See you tomorrow.

A short trip up the creek today, just to explore what some of the falls looked like with a bit of added water. (Another day of rain.) Forgot to bring the tripod, which is a bit odd...since that's what I use when shooting the falls. Live and learn.

Not that I "needed" one, but I stopped by Home Depot and picked up an axe today. I'm sure it'll come in handy for something, but I haven't decided just what that is.

Anyway...it looks good next to the uke.

From the first day I moved in, I've tried to get at least one photo of the creek that runs in front of the cabin. Some days...I take more than one. This was just after moving in.
